Monster Island Gaming | Override: Mech City Brawl (Part 2)

I should’ve posted this a while ago.

After taking a month off to pump out some bonus audio episodes, Nathan returns to Override: Mech City Brawl for some more Monster Island Gaming! He picks up where he left off in his arcade playthrough on hard mode. He remembered how to do a special move for Metageckon that he didn’t do all during part 1–he had to be airborne. Apparently, blue T-Rex mechs can’t jump. After some practice, he confronts the weirdly easy final boss on the Moon. The podcast’s intrepid producer, Jimmy From NASA, was supposed to join him in the live chat, but technology issues prevented his comments from going through, so he settled for texting Nathan while he played. At least he wasn’t gambling on Nathan losing.

It sounds like I still need to adjust my mic settings. Sorry.

Override: Mech City Brawl is a quirky mech-themed arena fighting game from Modus Games. You take control of one of 15 or so mechs to battle kaiju called Xenotypes or against other mechs. The most interest aspect of the game is that up to four players can control one mech at once. It’s the closest you can get to piloting Voltron.

Monster Island Gaming | Override: Mech City Brawl (Stream)

If you missed my stream from last night (or want to see it again), here’s the video. The microphone wasn’t the issue so much as the audio for the game, Override: Mech City Brawl, was a bit too high. Next time I’ll turn it down.

I was surprised that I was joined by my intrepid producer, Jimmy From NASA, in the live chat (as well as Golden Ticket Tourist Joe Metter). Jimmy started betting pools with Monster Island personel on my performance–and he constantly bet against me! He fleeced everyone because I foolishly decided to play the game on hard mode. ::sigh::

Anyway, here’s the video:

VIDEO: Unboxing Criterion’s ‘Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films’ Blu-Ray Set

In celebration of Godzilla’s 65th anniversary/birthday, I purchased the new Criterion Blu-Ray box set for the Showa Series films. I got them half off thanks to Barnes and Noble’s Criterion sale, which was one heck of a bargain. Watch as I unbox this beautiful (but weird) set!

Godzilla will be throwing one heck of a birthday party!

My First Podcast: Kaijuvision Radio

The Monster Island Film Vault is set to premiere next month (release date coming soon!), but you can still hear me talk about film appreciation and kaiju in the meantime!

For those who don’t know, I was the season one co-host on Kaijuvision Radio, a podcast I created and developed with Brian Scherschel. There I cut my podcasting teeth and opened my mind to seeing kaiju films, among other media, in a new light. Since the Monster Island Film Vault is picking up where I left off with that show, I recommend listening to these episodes in anticipation of the new podcast. Here’s a YouTube playlist with all the episodes plus a few bonus interviews. Enjoy!

Episodes 1-37 of my first podcast, Kiajuvision Radio, plus an interview on Geek Devotions and interviews with John LeMay and Daniel DiManna. Enjoy!

G-Fest XXVI Panel – The Art of Kaiju Writing

The third and final panel I participated in was the annual Art of Kaiju Writing, a Q&A with fellow writers Neil Riebe, John LeMay, and Skip Peel. We spent an hour answering all manner of writing questions, and not just ones related to kaiju. In other words, even if you’re not into monsters, there’s plenty you can learn from this video.

Poor Neil, though. He joked that the camera would break at seeing his face, and at first I thought it didn’t record. I discovered later that it had. 😛

Funny story: I got myself on this panel in 2017 (my first G-Fest) five minutes before it started. I’ll explain later. Enjoy!
