Hello, kaiju lovers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nathan covers yet another\nfilm discussed on his former podcast, Kaijuvision Radio, by Brian Scherschell: Ishiro\nHonda\u2019s 1957 tokusatsu classic, The\nMysterians<\/em>. While Godzilla<\/em> (1954)\nsinglehanded created the kaiju and tokusatsu genres, this film arguably ushered\nin Toho\u2019s \u201cgolden age,\u201d which would last for a decade. While Nathan does touch\non Moguera, the special effects, and the film\u2019s many influences, the bulk of his\nanalysis is focused on Japan\u2019s relationship with the United Nations, which the\nnation joined just a year before the film was released. The Mysterians <\/em>expresses Japan\u2019s\u2014and Honda\u2019s\u2014postwar ideal of \u201cproactive\npacifism,\u201d which it saw in the U.N. Throw in a few snarky interruptions from\nthe podcast\u2019s intrepid producer, Jimmy\nFrom NASA<\/a>, and a random cameo from a psycho-powered dictator<\/a>,\nand it\u2019s a typical Wednesday at The Monster Island Film Vault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that, Nathan dumps\nout the mailbag to read several iTunes reviews and e-mails from listeners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
