Episode 75: ‘Ebirah, Horror of the Deep’ | Ft. Brendan Morley and the Metters | Godzilla Redux

Hello, Kaiju Lovers! The final “Godzilla Redux” episode of season three features three guests! Longtime staples Joe and Joy Metter and first-timer Brendan Morley join Nate to discuss Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (aka Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster). It’s Brendan’s favorite Godzilla film, so it was only natural he’d be here. Nate enticed Joe and Joy to return by having them watch the “banned” Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode that riffed the film. That means the entire gamut is run because Nate watched it subtitled while Brendan watched the international dub. The Metters, as the resident kaiju newbies, notice and appreciate some things hardcore fans take for granted—including what might be an Easter egg no one else has ever seen! It’s an MIFV exclusive, people! Listen to learn what it is!

Before the broadcast, Nate meets a new girl who brings him a press release that says Jimmy is in jail, requiring Jet Jaguar to fill in for him on the show. Then Jessica shows up to berate Nate about taking her job. Afterward, Jessica hears from Mimo that Mothra DNA is being stolen by a Bug Lady, so she intercedes as Crystal Lady. But this new foe proves too strong—until she’s helped by Whambat!

Bonus Episode #2: Interview with Eric Elliott (Batman Meets Godzilla)

Hello, kaiju lovers!

HOLY INTERVIEW, BATMAN! You’ve heard it being promoted for several months on the show, and now you’ll get the full story. In another special bonus episode for all of you in quarantine because of coronavirus, Nathan and his intrepid producer, Jimmy From NASA, are joined by Eric Elliott, the mastermind behind the Batman Meets Godzilla fan comic. As in the Adam West Batman and the Showa Godzilla! Hear Eric talk about the secret origins of this project that’s based on as an unmade film from the mid-1960s with story treatments written by Batman ’66 producer William Dozier and possibly even Shinichi Sekizawa. Then the Dynamic Duo discuss the art of sequential storytelling in comics, the mystery of the Sekizawa treatment, adapting the treatment for a three-issue comic, and who would win a dance-off between Batman and Godzilla.

Tune in next week for a regular episode—same kaiju time, same kaiju channel!
