Hello, Kaiju Lovers! We interrupt our regular episode schedule for a “special report” on the Skull Island “anime” from Netflix and Powerhouse Animation. (Yes, the first “special report” was an experiment and the other a gag, but work with us). Obviously, Nate calls on his animation experts, Drew and Jacob of The Cel Cast, to discuss this, well, train wreck. SPOILER WARNING: It’s the worst thing in the MonsterVerse (although, its place in that shared universe is dubious). It has maybe 1.5 good episodes out of eight. But prepare yourselves, Kaiju Lovers, for Nate to “cross the podcast streams” for the most epic “rantmaster” ever on MIFV! (Take that, Little Orphan Annie!)

It’s not often Nate has actors from kaiju films on the show, let alone two of his buddies! Yes, believe it or not, his friends Daniel DiManna (Godzilla Novelization Project) and Elijah Thomas (Kaiju Conversation) both “starred” and “co-directed” the independent schlock-fest ZillaFoot from SRS Cinema. In this episode, which is more of an interview than a review/discussion, Daniel and Elijah talk about how they got involved with this movie and what they did in it. They also try to explain its convoluted history and divulge some juicy insider info! It’s the definitive podcast episode on ZillaFoot! (Worst bragging rights ever…?)

Episode 77: ‘Dinosaucers’ (Ft. Michael Hamilton and Daniel DiManna)

Hello, Kaiju Lovers! MIFV MAX members Michael “The Man of Many Nicknames” Hamilton and Daniel “Godzilla Novelization Project” DiManna sponsored this Patreon episode on the semi-obscure ‘80s cartoon Dinosaucers, a comedy-action series about anthropomorphic alien dinosaurs battling each other. Sadly, Nate doesn’t find it as cool as that description sounds, much to his guests’ chagrin. The nostalgic Michael and ever-positive Danny make valiant defenses of the show—even when it gets culturally insensitive and a bit cringey. But then it has flashes of brilliance like when the characters travel to Japan and get in a pseudo-Godzilla movie and play a workout video from Chuck No-Wrist. You read that right! Episodes covered: “Dinosaur Valley,” “Sleeping Booty,” “The Truth about Dragons,” “Age of Aquariums,” and “Karatesaurus Wrecks.”

Beforehand, Nate tries—and fails—to sneak past a Space Beastman to acquire the rare scotch for WHG3 and enlists H.E.A.T.’s super-spy, Monique Dupre, for help. Afterward, he and Jet Jaguar take the scotch to Nessie’s Brasserie, where they meet an overeager Bonnie and H.E.A.T.’s techie, Randy Hernandez, and acquire a micro-SD card with evidence against Winter—that requires a password to avoid deleting the data!

The prologue and epilogue, “Hijinks,” was written by Nathan Marchand with Michael Hamilton.

Monster Conversation Ray Harryhausen Annual #2: ‘Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger’

Hello, Kaiju Lovers! To celebrate Ray Harryhausen’s birthday (and their birthdays), Nate is joined by the “Littlest Gatekeeper,” Elijah Thomas of Kaiju Conversation, to continue their yearly series discussing the filmography of the stop-motion master. Today, it’s 1977’s Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. (Classic rock and Rocky III references, anyone?) It’s the third in the unconnected Sinbad trilogy from Columbia Pictures and stars John Wayne’s son, Dr. Quinn, and the Second Doctor (Who). This was Nate and Elijah’s first time watching the film. Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 76: Alex McCumbers vs. ‘Rampage’ (2018)

With this, I have caught up with the current output of episodes. Nate is still trying to catch up with publication. This is why I think he’s doing too much. I know he thinks it’s…beneficial for everyone, but he’s going to burn himself out. I just hope it isn’t literal. I saw that happen to a guy at NASA once. Yes, stress can lead to spontaneous combustion. (I don’t want to talk about it). Anyway, I have a fair amount of notes on episode 76 despite not producing it. (Nice work, Jet!) They are:

  • I missed you, too, Nate—by an inch. Ha!
  • That manual needs to get published. I’m in talks with a publisher now.
  • Alex corrected the release date instead of me or Jet. Good work!
  • Nate’s done well with the EID’s, but I’d rather spare him the trouble (especially now) and write them.
  • Peyton Reed directed cheerleaders and Ant-Man, Nate.

  • Did Yuji Kaida do rampage Japanese poster? (link, image)
  • I’ve played Jet’s Jaguar. His favorite games are Iron Soldier 1-2.

  • I had the Rock’s eyebrows for a while. It was a side effect of miraculously surviving the infamous War in Space. The surgery fixed them.
  • Jet said Bowser is a kaiju, Nate. Given the semi-nebulous definition of the word, I don’t know if we can refute him. I could check with the kaijuologists—if I wasn’t in jail!
  • Midway didn’t publish War of the Monsters. It was developed by Incognito Entertainment (and Santa Monica Studio) and published by Sony. (Source: Wikipedia).
  • Primal Rage is a post-apocalyptic game. It takes place after a meteor strike devastates civilization.
  • How the heck could you get me confused for Jet?! “Jet Jimmy”? “Jimmy Jet”? The latter was my pro-wrestler persona for a while, though.
  • I spent a tour in Earth Defense Force. I had the highest robot kill count because my engineering knowledge helped me identify weaknesses. The giant bugs? Not so much.

Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 75: ‘Ebirah, Horror of the Deep’ | Brendan Morley & The Metters

This was the first episode where I had to take notes as I listened in the detention center. Or was I under the bus? It felt like I was under the bus. I’m glad I trained Jet Jaguar to sub for me in the producer booth. There was no way Nate could’ve handled the show on his own. It’s too bad I wasn’t there because I would’ve liked to have met Brendan and challenged Joy to a friendly duel. Anyway, episode 75 required me to do some research using my limited internet access in the detention center. I may or may not have called in a favor from a certain “Hyper Agent” to gather the information I needed (but you didn’t hear that from me).

  • Must you remind me of the Daimajin incident? It’s on my top ten most embarrassing moments. Not top five, though. (I don’t want to talk about those).
  • Masao was my wingman for a while. You know, when I helped Gamera save the Earth from a space squid…who’s now one of my bosses. (Damnit…).
  • I can appreciate the Star Wars references from jail. I need a little joy in my prison life…at least while the “X-Lady” is sleeping…which is a lot.
  • The crab/lobster fighting game has the obvious title of Fight Crab. It’s on Steam and the Nintendo Switch.
  • Sadamasa’s full name is Sadamasa Arikawa.
  • I had to do some digging (YouTube’s search system is goofy), but I found the Peanuts singing “Jingle Bells” in English:
  • I’m just as surprised Brendan understands Jet! It’s like he has a sixth sense with robots. Is he a technopath? I don’t meet many people with those abilities.
  • Roasted Daicondoru does taste like chicken and is served by Japanese KFC’s. It’s one of the Island’s exports to the mainland. What’s strange is only one restaurant serves it on the Island itself: Burt’s (named after Burt Gummer).
  • Jet and Rex go way back…or so they tell me.
  • Joy provided me with a link to the “Godzilla cloud” clip.
  • I confirmed the cigarette on Mothra, which Nate then used for a hype meme.
