Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 86: ‘The Whale God’ vs. Daniel DiManna vs. Elijah Thomas

We’re getting a lot of impromptu episodes this season. Well, two at the moment. As far as I know, there won’t be any more added to the schedule. I don’t know how much more we can handle, especially when we have to split our time between the show, our regular jobs, and kaiju wrangling. Plus, I have a girlfriend…who’s upset with me. (Damnit!) Anyway, I took a lot of notes on episode 86 (The Whale God), which I’m sure will do nothing but shamelessly promote SRS Cinema’s release of this film. (I need to be paid for all this free publicity).

  • Never question what I know about robots and piloting! I’ve watched every Gundam series five times. (Okay, maybe I’ve watched five Gundam series once…).
  • You goofballs are such SRS shills in this. I hope you got paid for it. Oh, wait….
  • Must you talk about whale racism? We’re going to get letters from the Gorilla Whales…again.
  • “Dickatry.” Someone call Merriam-Webster; we have a new word for them.
  • The shenanigans Alf and I got into…I wish I could talk about them.
  • The puns only got worse after the Entertaining Info Dump. They would kill some people.
  • Don’t forget Warning from Space, Marchand! That was a “kaiju” film before this!
  • That was the weirdest wandering accent I’ve ever heard. How the hell do you go from Davey Jones to Sean Connery?
  • Killing a whale to become Takashi Shimura is freaking weird, man! The sad thing is there are people in the Godzilla fandom who would try it.
  • I might’ve ripped a voice box out of a Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronic. It was my Predator-style prize!
  • What did William Hughes do? I don’t know. I couldn’t find anything on him. I did find other actors named William Hughes on IMDb, though.
  • Toyo’s glaring reminds me of angry Kaguya. That’s all I’ve been seeing for a few weeks now. She’s slowly coming around…I think.
  • The definitions/descriptions I found for jidaigeki films included:
    • “Jidaigeki (時代劇) is a genre of film, television, video game, and theatre in Japan. Literally meaning “period dramas”, they are most often set during the Edo period of Japanese history, from 1603 to 1868. Some are set much earlier—Portrait of Hell, for example, is set during the late Heian period—and the early Meiji era is also a popular setting.” (Wikipedia)
    • So, I hate to disappoint Elijah, but I don’t think his new wife, Godzilla Minus One, counts.
  • I’m the studliest guy in every room I enter. Even Glen admitted that when he trained me at NASA.
  • I do have Twit-X. Perhaps I’ll check on Elijah there. Someone has to keep him in check. Marchand is failing at that. (Although, he did get smacked in the face by Kujira Kami after the show).
  • I downloaded and added a proper drum roll to our soundboard.
  • Sometimes Nate and I have fact check races. He won this time. This time….
  • “Kujira Kami” not “Gami,” Nate.
  • Yes, don’t blow hole my mind. (ba-dum-tsh!)
  • This episode might hold the record for most rimshots and sad trombones.
  • I’m definitely changing that Wi-Fi password. We can’t have randos in Seoul hacking our Wi-Fi. We need the bandwidth to produce the show and catch kaiju.
  • There is, in fact, a Korean Coast Guard.

In our next episode, we start the South Korean leg of our World Tour with Yongary, Monster from the Deep (1967), which will feature special guest Neil Riebe (aka Yongary’s biggest fan). Then we have season four’s first Patreon-sponsored episode (which, as Nate said, could be called “Corman’s Crabs”) with executive producer Damon Noyes—and it’s a double feature: Attack of the Crab Monsters and Island Claws. What Nate failed to mention was Danny will return later this month for a bonus episode on Space Monster Wangmagwi. Another SRS title? We need to start charging for this publicity! Then the “Kong Quest” (ba-dum-tsh!) returns when Legendary releases the latest MonsterVerse entry, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Until next time, remember…we shall overcome!

Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 85 – Godzilla: The Series | ‘Monster Wars’ | Ft. The Cel Cast | Godzilla Redux

In case anyone is wondering: Kaguya and I are fine. I know there are rumors going around that we broke up or were on the rocks. We’ve talked things over. It took a while to help her understand some things about how human “cultural frameworks,” as she calls them, work, but she seems to get it now…sorta. Am I still in the doghouse? Yeah. I’m giving her a bit of space. But I have to say, to paraphrase Jack Driscoll, “I think I…” Ahem! Anyway, let’s get into my notes on Episode 85 (Godzilla: The Series – “Monster Wars”), which featured the return of the “cartoon guys,” Drew Dodgen and Jacob Heron, from The Cel Cast.

  • The air conditioning will get fixed…eventually. This walking cobbled-together junk pile has far more pressing issues to fix…like the CD player.
  • As cute as D33-D117 (Deedlit?) is for an AI…Kaguya would kill me! She almost did after we recaptured Utam Goliathon!
  • MIFV’s previous Godzilla: The Series coverage was Episode 45 (“New Family” and “Deadloch”) and Bonus Episode 11 (“The Cameron Winter Trilogy”).
  • I think Drew was referring to Winter’s episodes of the show being before “Monster Wars.” He’s correct…about one. Winter’s first episode was episode five while “Monster Wars” was episodes 15-17.
  • The Martians didn’t know Earth’s bacteria was fatal to them…or was it a bio-weapon? That’s what Alan Moore would want you to believe. I know how much you love that, Nate. 😛
  • These aliens never win beauty pageants and hate being compared to the Harkonnens. Trust me, I’ve run into a few of them.
  • I asked the scientists if Zilla Jr. purrs. They looked at me like I was a weirdo. I am, but still, that was rude.
  • Wingnut?! #DeepCut
  • “Draczilla” That’s a terrifying concept. I’ll tell the Board to ban anyone from Transylvania from visiting the Island.
  • I fought Frussians once. I don’t want to talk about it.
  • Lies! You’ve kink-shamed me!
  • “Play it again, Sam,” is a misquoted line, as Nate explained. While it’s associated with Humphrey Bogart, something like it, “Play it, Sam,” was actually said by Ingrid Bergman.
  • Inspirational temporal displacement? That’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one. And yet another reason I hate time travel.
  • Paris has been attacked by kaiju, but only in Godzilla stories. Specifically, Destroy All Monsters, this three-parter, Godzilla: Final Wars, Godzilla Unleashed: Final Smash, and Godzilla: Rulers of Earth. (Fun fact: there’s a Kaiju No. 8 mural in Paris).
  • Admittedly, I didn’t have much time to search for kaiju attacks on Washington, D.C. (and my internet searches kept bringing up very different sorts of attacks), but much to Nate’s chagrin, the one I did find is an Asylum movie:
  • I might have something to do with the shield D33-D117 found around D.C.…I don’t want to talk about it.
  • You’d be surprised how many trailer park aliens there are in the galaxy. Poverty is universal.
  • We don’t talk about mushrooms on MIFV. For very good reasons.
  • Popcorn ball, Nate, not cornball.
  • Occam’s razor > technobabble. So, I’m with Monique in this case.
  • It’s always too soon for Firefly.
  • I think I met Queen Bleep once. I don’t want to talk about it.
  • “Nilla”? As funny as that is, Dr. Tatopoulos won’t approve that name.
  • The years for crab movies are correct, Nate.
  • It’s not often I’m left speechless about crabs. (Although, I’m thinking of a different type of crabs…).

We’re going to be busy in March at MIFV. We have another impromptu episode (hopefully), which will go over the just-released The Whale God, a semi-obscure Daiei film, with Daniel DiManna and Elijah Thomas. Then we get back to the World Tour with our first South Korean film, Yongary, Monster from the Deep (1967) with special guest Neil Riebe. We punctuate the month with season four’s first Patreon-sponsored episode courtesy of executive producer Damon Noyes, which will be our first double feature: Attack of the Crab Monsters and Island Claws. From our first Roger Corman flick to an almost-unknown pseudo-remake.

Until next time, remember…we shall overcome!

Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 84: John LeMay vs. ‘Mighty Peking Man’

… Huh? I’m supposed to be writing a blog? Oh! Sorry, Kaiju Lovers, I was distracted by Kaguya. She’s looking mighty fine today…for reasons. Ah-hem…. Anyway, episode 84 on Mighty Peking Man was an interesting one. John LeMay and I continue to keep the hatchet buried, but my new mic is still hot garbage. Gah! Despite these distractions, I still did my due diligence and took notes on this episode in my iconic riff-tastic way. Let’s get into them.

  • Nate going off topic? That’s new.
  • It’s easy to confuse the woman’s and ape-man’s names—but not they themselves!
  • Nate, you’re a terrible, terrible person for reasons other than forgetting Johnny’s Chinese name. Which, by the way, is Chen Zhengfeng.
  • The G-Fest filmmakers are Dojo Studios. You should know this because you’re cameoing in a crowd scene in their new film.
  • I watch this flick for Ms. Kraft, too. Don’t most straight guys, weird or otherwise? (Not that I’m saying I’m weird…because I am…but not that kind of weird, I swear!)
  • Kaguya hit me because of this movie…but not while watching it…I don’t want to talk about it.
  • It’s nice that great minds like mine and John’s think alike about a Hong Kong giant ape-man movie.
  • Slander? I’ve seen your search history for “podcast films,” Marchand! You sure you’re sticking to the “no porn” rule?
  • We need a larger number of angry anti-rapist kaiju. We’d have a hell of a lot fewer problems then.
  • Teruyoshi Nakano and I were best friends. We had a shared love of explosions. Why do you think Venus blew up?
  • From Wikizilla: “Director Keizo Murase originally conceived of the idea for Brush of the God while making The Mighty Peking Man, following a suggestion that he write a film for Hong Kong producer Chua Lam.”
  • Low-hanging fruit and monkeys? Not your best joke, John.
  • I didn’t stand a chance?! Against who?! EXPLAIN YOURSELF!
  • I searched for a feminist essay on Mighty Peking Man. Sadly, I don’t have access to a scholarly database, and this is all I could find on Google Scholar. Perhaps they haven’t discovered this film yet? (Let’s keep it that way).
  • It’s pronounced “ka-zem” not “cha-zem” John.
  • Take it up with Capt. Gordon about the Asylum stealing my Mechani-Kong Mk. II plans? How about Raymund! Michael will be hearing from my lawyer!
  • I may or may not have been on the Empire State Building looking for the woman with the Peking Man bones…I don’t want to talk about it.

Join MIFV MAX on Patreon to read Nate’s leftover research notes for this episode!

In our next few episodes, we’re taking some unexpected divergences. For “Godzilla Redux,” we aren’t doing Destroy All Monsters…because reasons. No, The Cel Cast joins us for more Godzilla: The Series coverage with the three-parter “Monster Wars.” Then we do a special episode on The Whale God, which was just released by SRS Cinema. Daniel DiManna joins Nate for this because they were supposed to be included on the blu-ray’s special features. They’ll explain. Then the World Tour continues when we go from here in Hong Kong to South Korea to catch Yongary (I) and discuss his film, Yongary, Monster from the Deep.

Until next time, remember…we shall overcome!

Jimmy’s Notes on Bonus Episode #15: ‘The Abominable Snowman’ (1957) | Ft. Matt Walsh

I took the day off thanks to Matt Walsh’s generosity, and let me tell you, his money was well-spent on a day of sightseeing with Kaguya. If you’d like to see what we did, check out my post (tweet?) on Twit-X (which, as Nate says, sounds like the name of a Star Wars character). Regardless, once we returned to our mecha-home away from home, I listened to the AOD (audio on demand) of the bonus episode on The Abominable Snowman (1957), and I have some notes.

  • I was almost fooled by Matt’s impression of Matt. Kaguya, on the other hand, well, she needed me to explain some things. She’s still more perceptive than the internet, though. I’m amazed we weren’t bombarded by hate mail. That says a lot about the Kaiju Lovers. 😊
  • I missed pizza?! (bleep)it!
  • The (in)famous Yeti episode is #55, which you can listen to here.
  • “Faclemped.” Ha! I’m adding that to my daily vocabulary. It’s one of several words that Matt should submit to a word-of-the-day calendar.
  • “Baron Fronkensteen.” Now, I’d pay to see Gene Wilder play the Hammer version of the character.
  • Mr. Cushing will always be Tarkin to me, too. I grew up in America and Japan in the decades leading up to Star Wars, so I didn’t catch these British films.
  • Curse of Frankenstein grossed $8 million overall, which was 70 times its production budget. The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms grossed $5 million against a $200,000 budget.
  • Normally, I throw shade at John, but he and I are mending things now. I do miss the cross-platform flame wars, though.
  • The sequels to The Creature from the Black Lagoon were released in 1955 (Revenge of the Creature) and 1956 (The Creature Walks Among Us), and not the ‘60s, Nate! Do your research! I’d have caught that live.
  • The lowest British movie certificate at the time was “U” for “unrestricted.”
  • Tucker is no Nick Adams! My spirit will beat yours!
  • Can we hire Matt for the opening? “Cures what ails ya?” “The diabetus?” The man has a career in commercials waiting to happen.
  • Untamed Youth wasn’t an Ed Wood movie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Untamed_Youth.
  • I can confirm the composer of this film is Humphrey Searle.
  • “Scumbucketry.” Again, word-of-the-day calendar.
  • I couldn’t find a “Chandler the Magician,” but I did find Chandu the Magician. It’s a 1932 American film, though. Perhaps Mr. Guest misremembered?
  • Nate does use a Howard Hawks style of podcasting. Trust me, we’ve gotten complaints about it. I try my best to fix it in postproduction for the podcast editions of episodes.
  • I do have a strange appreciation for Caroline Munro, er, Starcrash. It truly is the second-best Star Wars knockoff. 😛
  • Can we trademark “Raquel Welch Effect”? We know a really good lawyer.
  • That’s nine episodes of Godzilla: The Series, Nate: three in episode 45, three in bonus episode 11, and now three in an upcoming episode.

Be sure to read Nate’s research notes on the MIFV Patreon!

Speaking of the next episodes, John LeMay soon returns to discuss Mighty Peking Man (our second Shaw Bros. episode this season), which is known for a blonde hotter than Anne Darrow. (Fight me!) Then, as I said, The Cel Cast returns to discuss the three-part Godzilla: The Series epic “Monster Wars” in place of Destroy All Monsters as part of “Godzilla Redux.” Because reasons.

Until next time, remember…we shall overcome!

Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 83: ‘Son of Godzilla’ | Ft. Neil Riebe

Two episodes in, and I’m already annoyed with my new mic. I spent too much money to replace it, and unfortunately, the eBay seller I bought it from doesn’t do returns beyond 30 days. Plus, I purchased it just before I was wrongfully imprisoned. Oh well. Kaguya doesn’t think I sound as “sexy” on it (she’s still learning what that means). Given that we’re on the road in Hong Kong and I’m the only one with the technical knowledge and skills to maintain my “patchwork mecha,” as Nate calls it, I’m too busy to do anything about it.

But I do have time to share my notes on episode 83, the “Godzilla Redux” on Son of Godzilla with Neil Riebe.

  • I just can’t win with my mics (as I explained above).
  • I’ve avoided a colonoscopy for years. I keep telling doctors they won’t find anything up there. I doubt I brought anything back with me from Venus…I think.
  • “This Island Indiana”? Wasn’t that a mockbuster made by the Asylum about 65 years too late?
  • I love the A-Team! It was my favorite show back when I was moonlighting as a substitute Blue Bioman! I may have even modeled my gunplay after the show…which explains why my marksmanship was terrible.
  • King Kong Escapes was episode six.
  • Plural of Kamacuras is…Kamacuri, according to Dr. Hermann Gottlieb.
  • I’ll submit Neil’s theory about the glacier and Solgel and Skull Islands to the Monster Island scientists. He might get a Nobel Prize in Kaijuology.
  • I’ll also submit Nate’s “Rip Van Minya” theory to them. He probably won’t get a Nobel Prize…because Minya.
  • Nate is basic. Who knew?
  • “Momzilla”? “Dad bod”? I’m confused. But so are the people who think Godzilla is female.
  • And the Japanese think Americans made Godzilla fat…have you seen the suit in this?!
  • Jar Jar?! WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!
  • This is the episode of crazy fan theories! I should’ve offered one. Hmm…Oh! Minya is the Antichrist. (Well, that’s what some fans think…).
  • I’d have preferred Kumi Mizuno in this, obviously. I mean, have you seen my girlfriend? Hubba-hubba!
  • “Height” not “heighth,” Neil!
  • Psycho released in 1960, seven years before this, Nate! Do your research!
  • Come on, Marchand, have you seen Brooke Shields in The Blue Lagoon? (Just don’t tell Kaguya I said that).
  • Kazue Kiba gets second billing as a screenwriter in the credits.
  • Danny already made the Tofu Fury Jaeger joke last episode. I still like Neil’s idea that it should be ¾ the size and two-times the firepower, though. I’ll get on that once we return to the Island.

Check MIFV MAX on Patreon to read Nate’s leftover research notes!

Our next episode is actually an impromptu bonus episode sponsored by Matt Walsh (no, not that Matt Walsh). Since he’s a madman who jumped to the $100 joke Patreon tier called “Jimmy’s Intern,” I have the day off for that recording. Nate should be able to manage…maybe. Kaguya and I will go sightseeing in Hong Kong. Then we get back to the World Tour in episode 84 with Shaw Bros.’s infamous Kongsploitation movie, Mighty Peking Man (aka Goliathon). There’s a huge ape-man in it? I only remember a hot blonde. (Again, don’t tell Kaguya I said that). My former nemesis John LeMay joins us for that. Then we get back to “Godzilla Redux” in episode 85…but not with Destroy All Monsters (because reasons). No, it’s Godzilla: The Series – “Monster Wars” with The Cel Cast.

Until next time, remember…we shall overcome!

Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 82: Daniel DiManna vs. ‘Super Inframan’

Nate hasn’t had the best time with our “new normal,” but I love it! Yeah, I’m flying my junky mecha, Uber-Moguera, to recapture escaped kaiju…and my new microphone might actually be worse than my original…but I’m doing it all with my new “Planet X girlfriend” (ba-dum-tsh!), Kaguya, so I can’t complain. I just wish Nate wouldn’t. Ugh!

So, let’s dive into my first blog of season 4 and The Monster Island World Tour! It’s over episode 82 (Super Inframan, featuring Daniel DiManna).

  • It’s about time my dulcet tones were heard on the show! The Kaiju Lovers will, well, love it! (Except they didn’t. That’s the last time I buy a microphone from a Chinese eBay seller! I’m going to march into Hong Kong right now and find him and give him a one-star Yelp review!)
  • I regret fighting Not-Goldar. Mechani-Kong 2 is crowning achievement. (Don’t say that to my NASA friends, who still love the Gohten).
  • It’s better than “Pollydanna,” Mr. DiManna. That was Nate’s first choice.
  • My mic still doesn’t work?! DAMNIT! I should’ve checked where this was coming from on eBay. Freaking China! Gah! I should’ve gone with Sweetwater, like Nate said. (This was written live).
  • I was an Infra-Man once. I’d tell you which country…but then I’d have to kill you.
  • You said, “boon,” when you meant, “boom,” Danny. Those are very different words.
  • I made him a new Infra-Cycle. I still don’t think he’s used it, though….
  • What do you mean by “as straight,” Danny? That’s a loaded word.
  • “It’s my show, dangit!” Nate is power mad!
  • “Witch-Eye” candy?! (Ba-dum-tsh!) Go to horny jail!
  • “Dagger of the Mind”? Nice choice!
  • I’m well-acquainted with Xilien UFO’s…because girlfriend.
  • I have the best Mysterians fandom! It’s a giant robot!
  • What? I had a question about the…”good doctor”…how was I to know it would summon him?!
  • You meant “Chinese characters,” Nate, not Japanese. Oops. He’s been in Japan for too long.
  • I’ve seen things like Gehara, too. I don’t want to talk about them.
  • I visited the Infra-verse once. ‘Tis a silly place.
  • Try counting the explosions in a Michael Bay film, Danny. You’ll give up after ten minutes. Trust me, I tried.
  • The “Yes, quites” give me flashbacks.
  • You know how sensitive I am about death jokes, Marchand! “Kinda died.” I kinda died!
  • Did I go to that “The Dragon Lives Again” afterlife when I died…I don’t want to talk about it.
  • The Dragon Lives Again sounds perfect for movie night! With what you’ve made me and the rest of the gang watch, come on!
  • Ever heard of polygamy?
  • I’ll get started on the Tofu Fury Jaeger. The blueprints will be ready in a few months.
  • “Kung Food” is going to be a new restaurant on the Island, isn’t it? I swear, the Island is evidence that manifestation works. Or maybe it’s just the Board.

There you go!

We have a loaded January for you! Not only are we kicking off season 4, we have our first “Godzilla Redux” of the season with Son of Godzilla, featuring Neil Riebe. We also have a two-part “special report” on AppleTV+’s MonsterVerse series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which will be a compilation of weekly Patreon episodes, and an impromptu bonus episode on Hammer Films’ The Abominable Snowman thanks to MIFV MAX member, Matt Walsh (but Not That Matt Walsh).

Remember: We shall overcome!

Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 81: ‘Godzilla Minus One’ vs. Jack ‘GMan’ Hudgens

Nate tossed out an impromptu episode on Godzilla Minus One while the film is still popular, so now it’s time the Jimmy From NASA wrote a blog on it! It’s always fun having Mr. Hudgens on. I remind him daily that, while he kinda looks like Glen, I knew Glen. Jack’s Twit-X avatar is Nick Adams, but Nick Adams is my spirit animal. In other words, accept no substitutions! Anyway, let’s get into my notes on this episode.

  • It’s always a red letter day when Nate admits he’s wrong. Now he needs to admit I’m right. (I’m always right…most of the time).
  • C.S. Lewis originally wrote about “chronological snobbery” in Surprised by Joy, where he wrote, “Barfield never made me an Anthroposophist, but his counterattacks destroyed forever two elements in my own thought. In the first place he made short work of what I have called my ‘chronological snobbery,’ the uncritical acceptance of the intellectual climate common to our own age and the assumption that whatever has gone out of date is on that account discredited. You must find why it went out of date. Was it ever refuted (and if so by whom, where, and how conclusively) or did it merely die away as fashions do? If the latter, this tells us nothing about its truth or falsehood. From seeing this, one passes to the realization that our own age is also ‘a period,’ and certainly has, like all periods, its own characteristic illusions. They are likeliest to lurk in those widespread assumptions which are so ingrained in the age that no one dares to attack or feels it necessary to defend them.”
  • Nate wishes he could see Minus One five times in a week. The Board is keeping him busy before his contract has to be renewed.
  • How many Godzilla continuities are there?
    • Showa
    • Heisei
    • Godzilla 1998
    • Godzilla 2000
    • Godzilla vs. Megaguirus
    • GMK
    • The Kiryu Saga
    • Final Wars
    • MonsterVerse
    • Shin Godzilla
    • Godzilla Minus One
    • …and various cartoons, comics, and other media!
  • It was a 13mm gun, Nate, not a 15mm gun. (But I wrote the EID. Oops…).
  • I can neither confirm nor deny I was the one who recorded that GMK bootleg Jack bought. I was desperate for money at the time.
  • I want Yamazaki to direct Always Sunny in Philadelphia now. It might make it better. 😛
  • The full title is Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle.
  • “Singular pointing”™.
  • Well, double Bullzord on you, Marchand!
  • I have opinions about bad pilots…but I did crash my fighter into a mountain, so….
  • I need issue 3 of Batman Meets Godzilla STAT, too!
  • Neither of these bozos know how to pronounce names.
    • “jee-ah” not “jaye-ah”
    • “gin-zah” not “jin-zaa”
    • “ki-tah-muhr-ah” not “ki-tah-meer-ah”
    • It’s “Kikuchi” not “Kiguchi,” Nate. (Although, he did correct himself later).
  • This was cut, but I realized I need to install mics in the green room. Both Reb and “ET” piped in a little, but they couldn’t be heard. We have an extra microphone that almost never gets used. I can install it in the green room.
  • Nate’s jealous of my math skills. No wonder he was an English major.
  • Speaking as an accidental kamikaze, that was a terrible joke, Nate.
  • I hear Captain Gordon thought Jack was an imposter on the air. But Gordon was drinking, and he often thinks everyone is impersonating him while inebriated.
  • Jessica might use her magic powers to turn Nate into a “Baka bomb.” She confirmed this to me personally.
  • I confirmed the HMAS Australia was attacked five different times by kamikazes.
  • The American ship attacked by 18 kamikazes whose name Nate couldn’t remember was the USS Laffey (DD-724). It was the worst kamikaze attack of the war.
  • Jack said it was a fire extinguisher, not a hose.
  • “The peanut gallery”? As in “ET”? I was checking the broadcast time, too. We went longer than I expected. However, “ET” equates quantity with quality, which isn’t always the case. We beat him there.
  • Laundry bills aren’t covered by our guest services. Although, Gary got around that.
  • Jack going Super Saiyan was the loudest I’ve ever heard anyone on this show—and I work with Nate Marchand!

Nate had a lot of notes for this episode, but he was disallowed by “ET” from taking notes on his phone during the film. Nate has decided he’s taking a pad of paper with him from now on. Although, he admits he wouldn’t have been able to take notes while being thrashed by the 4DX seats. Regardless, here are his notes:

Enjoy these while you can. Starting with the next episode, his leftover notes will be MIFV MAX exclusives on Patreon.

As Nate mentioned, season four, “The Monster Island World Tour,” begins in 2024, starting with Super Infra-Man (a perennial favorite of MST3K creator, Joel Hodgson), which will feature Godzilla Novelization Project creator Daniel DiManna. Then “Godzilla Redux” returns with Son of Godzilla, featuring Neil Riebe as a guest.

And so, season three finally comes to an end. We a lot to do…assuming our contracts are renewed. Thankfully, as Nate loves to say, we know a really good lawyer.

Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 80: The Asylum’s ‘Monster Island’ (Ft. Raymund Martin)

Guess who’s back, back again. Jimmy’s back! Tell a friend!

I missed the producer’s booth. It really has become my natural environment. Certainly more so than jail. Although, as prisons go, Ogasawara’s isn’t the worst. How do I know this? Let’s just say this wasn’t the first time I’ve been behind bars. It wasn’t Mayberry, either, though. However, I had the best cellmate. Hot damn, she was a fanboy’s dream come true! Too bad she spent most of her time sleeping…and in the next room…being scrutinized by doctors, security, and at least one Interpol agent. That stressed her out so much, I swear she drank three gallons of water a day. H2O is scarce where she’s from—and no, it’s not Arrakis. But iron bars are no cage for the charm of James Crane! “Lady X” and I got quite close. There was literal hand-holding many nights while she coped with the unwanted attention. Which tells you she definitely wanted attention from ol’ Jimmy! Thankfully, our really good lawyer friends got everyone off her back by blackmailing, litigating them with accusations of racism. I can personally vouch that she’s not trying to conquer anyone—she’s been conquered! Haha!

Anyway, for my first episode back, I took plenty of notes during episode 80 (The Asylum’s Monster Island) featuring that really good lawyer friend.

  • I finally return, and Nate doesn’t let my ego inflate. Jerk. At least he learned he can’t do the show without me.
  • Jet gets a good report from me. I’d grade him a B+ or A-.
  • I filed that litigation for the season 2 finale. It was for assault.
  • “Bootlegging” meant something different for me as a kid, too. I don’t want to talk about it.
  • I dated a geomythologist once. She couldn’t say “kaiju” right, either.
  • And people think my stories are crazy. Listen to Raymund! At least mine are true! 😛
  • My lawn has mythic lore. (Well, actually I don’t have a lawn. I live in an apartment).
  • I was out-of-practice at interrupting you! Give me a few episodes!
  • I wish I could drink more on the job. The things I have seen and tolerated!
  • You’re always sweet to me, too, Gary. We should get drinks sometime. You like Jack Daniels?
  • You two were right about hypoxia: “Hypoxia is a state in which oxygen is not available in sufficient amounts at the tissue level to maintain adequate homeostasis; this can result from inadequate oxygen delivery to the tissues either due to low blood supply or low oxygen content in the blood (hypoxemia).”
  • You should see the parts I preordered for my next model of drones. They’ll be lava-proof and come with lasers. I’ve nicknamed them the “Fire Rodans.”
  • Nate, you have to be drunk to deal with Jessica? She already hates you!
  • The things I had to do to keep Gary from destroying himself and my equipment! I’d normally correct all of you!
  • I’ve contacted everyone I know at NASA, and all they say is they hate this movie and the “Cheeto rumor.”
  • I need a Rantmaster about weaponized junk food in space!
  • Nate should’ve taken my scotch offer. Apparently, he’s not drunk enough for this job.
  • “Winter” not “Winters,” Raymund.
  • Also, you forgot the direct article in KOTM.
  • “Pursuant” is a great word!
  • New memoir title: “My Life is a Mockbuster.”
  • You said, “blockbuster,” when you meant, “mockbuster,” Nate.
  • The Mouse did indeed defeat Phase 4 Films over “Frozen Land,” which returned to its original title, The Legend of Sarilla. It only took a month, and Disney got $100,000. Raise your hand if you’re surprised. I’ll wait.
  • You should see the notes I trade with Raymund. We know secrets that could topple several governments.
  • I have a lot of side hustles, man. Some of which I can’t discuss, because then I’d have to kill you. 😛

My note-taking definitely didn’t get rusty! But this isn’t my last blog of season three despite it being touted as the finale.

As per my contractual obligations, here are Nate’s leftover notes:

No, Nate has a coda planned; an epilogue, if you will. You see, a certain “lizard king” has a new movie out, and we would be remiss if we didn’t discuss it. That would be Godzilla Minus One (Godzilla -1). In order to, as Nate says, make it the best podcast episode on the film, he’s bringing on the infamous “gatekeeper” Jack “GMan” Hudgens. Between the three of us, your opinion will be invalidated. Then in 2024, season four, “The Monster Island World Tour,” will begin in earnest with the insane Super Infra-Man, which will feature Godzilla Novelization Project creator Daniel DiManna.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a thirsty woman to…satisfy.

Jimmy’s Notes on Episode 78: Bex vs. ‘Jurassic Park’

Spoiler warning! This was Jet’s last episode as my substitute. He did a good job, but I was happy to return after my… “extended vacation” (aka jail time). I made sure to listen to this one live, and oh boy! I had a lot of notes! You just can’t take the producer out of me—especially when it comes to riffing a certain host of a certain kaiju podcast. So, let’s get into my notes on Episode 79: Bex vs. ‘Jurassic Park.’ (I have pleased the SEO gods—assuming I believed in gods…which is hard to do when you work on Monster Island).

  • Read more of my manual, Marchand! Then I won’t have to add “Jetspeak interpreter” to my job list. (On second thought, that’d look good on resume…).
  • Speaking of which, I can confirm Jet did say, “Thanks for the compliment.”
  • I assume Bex was referring to George Gershwin? If she was, I couldn’t find any lyrics or titles with “Begin at the Begeen.”
  • In 1993, I was…I can’t talk about it. #TopSecret
  • My biggest spiritual moments are when I’m in a mecha. It’s a perfect union of man and machine.
  • Those books Bex mentioned were written by two different author. Desert Dog is by Jim Kjelgaard and The Wahoo Bobcat and The Phantom Deer are by Joseph Wharton Lippincott.
  • Maybe I’ll sponsor Velocipastor. 😛 Or not. I value my sanity too much after surviving the War in Space.
  • It is in your contract to see Jurassic Park in a theater for the 30th anniversary. (Which he did, by the way). #ContractualObligationFulfilled
  • Maj. Spielberg is a myth! Steven Spielberg’s father, Arnold, enlisted in the Army, not the Navy, in WWII.
  • I’ve tried both the dripping water and basketball-to-face flirting techniques. Neither work.
  • Apparently, Jet can read minds. “Timmy” and “Jimmy”? C’mon!
  • You asked for it!
  • The Island’s safety track record is spotless…except for the 1999 incident. That was a HUGE one…we don’t talk about that.
  • I never skip leg day. My thunder thighs rival Godzilla’s! 😛
  • “Quantum leap forward”?! I hate time travel!
  • Jet is engaging in blackmail?! We’re going to have a talk…and perhaps an update to his morality program. I’ll talk with Rokuro.
  • An MIFV MAX member needs to sponsor an Audrey Hepburn movie on Patreon just to mess with Nate. 😛 (What about Audrey II Hepburn? 😛 )
  • Jet still visits Rokuro during Christmas and New Year’s. He misses the “kid.”
  • Nate, you can turn your kaiju nerd card in to me! I was just appointed arbiter of such things! 😛
  • I, too, am scared of what strange children will come from Titanus Doug and Lady Baragon. Thankfully, Lady Baragon has remained loyal to her man.
  • This suddenly turned into fangirl-y “show and tell” with Bex. I approve.
  • Yes, Jet kept the AC on too high. You should see the electrical bill! (The Board didn’t, or else it’d come out of our paychecks).
  • Contrary to what Nate said, I couldn’t find any official Godzilla Legos. But I did find a “Lego Idea” page for it.
  • Nate doesn’t need to buy Jet’s mini-fig—he already has seven action figures of Jet! See:
  • Lion, crocodile, and baby elephant, oh my!
  • Nate made the meme:
  • I couldn’t find anything about Komodo dragons changing sex, but two at a British zoo were observed reproducing asexually, not unlike the Jurassic Park dinosaurs.
  • Being pedantic and breaking up arguments on the air is my job.
  • If I was giving Jet a grade, it’d be B+.
  • Our Tin Man needs to “oil can” the squeaky chair? I’d have fixed that long before this. Godzilla-damnit! The place falls apart without me!
  • You asked for it, and Nate provided:
  • I did try to fact check that book Crichton read. The publisher disregarded but corrections, damnit!
  • Did Nate mention the dinosaur deniers in The Lost World episode? I haven’t been able to check. Because I was in jail.
  • I saw Jet frown once. I had to fix it. That was one of the hardest repair jobs I’ve done!
  • Jet isn’t just my sidekick—I’m Jet’s new best friend.
  • I fought zombie dinosaurs once. You can read about it in my memoir. 😛

Now in fulfillment of my contractual obligations, here’s a PDF of Nate’s extensive notes on this.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I scrape off the rust and get back into the producer booth!
